 ABOUT US:

B'More Just is a student project that comes out of a desire to deepen our understanding of criminal justice issues in Baltimore and share our findings with the larger community (oh yeah, and pass Professor Houppert’s class).

Beginning in January 2019, 13 students in Johns Hopkins University’s social policy minor track spent four months examining criminal justice issues in the city. They sat in on criminal trials and bail hearings, interviewed everyone from frontline workers to policy experts, gang members to public defenders, activists to domestic violence survivors.

As they fanned out across the city to interview those impacted by criminal justice issues in Baltimore, as well as those active in policy debates, they began to get a sense of systemic problems with the way justice is conceived of and delivered here. They also heard about solutions and reform efforts.

The articles, profiles and op-eds featured in B'More Just are an effort to synthesize these ideas and join the lively and sometimes heated conversation about criminal justice in Baltimore.

Participants: Professor Karen Houppert, Paige Ackman, Isaac Adlerstein, Bridget Carolan, Olivia Chan, Julia Forster, Ally Hardebeck, Kayla Shim, Meera Sooda, Sophia Strickland, Adwoa Tandoh, Alyssa Thomas, Angela Zhu
